Identity

This selection of works will consist of artists found on the art sharing/art networking site http//:www.deviantart.com. In order to find all these pieces, i typed in the general search, "identity," and all pieces containing that label showed up. Since I am using this networking site as my source, many of the artists' true identities are not listed.

Paul Davey, a.k.a Mattahan

Picture
Paul Davey is a mostly digital artist originally from Jamaica. He is currently living in Miami, FL and working on his own graphic novel. This piece, titled "Wide Remote," is a self portrait. It contains the theme of Identity for a few reasons: (1), it is a self portrait and therefore an expression of his own identity. (2), the green phone/ipod or whatever seems to be the center of his attention and perhaps creating all the images swirling around him. This could insinuate that much of his life is connected by hand-held media. On the other hand, since there seems to be some sort of haze around the character, the item in his hand could be burning. This would insinuate much more negative connotations on the item in his hands and its effect on his life. Davey explains that he usually only incorporates people he knows and or can relate to in his artwork. There is very little information available on him, however an LCS (little chimp society) interview is available at http://thelittlechimpsociety.com/theape/lcs-interview-paul-davey/.

Wozzles, true name unknown

Picture
Wozzles is a deviantart alias for a male apparently 18 years old in the United Kingdom. He specializes in photography and photo-editing. Almost no information is available on the artist himself other than some self portraits. According to Wozzles, this piece illustrates a character with MPD (multiple personality disorder). Therefore, each of the digits in the hand is a different persona.

She is a constant blogger--she consistantly posts to her journal on deviantart.com. A recent one is an angry review of the movie, "Clash of the Titans."

Wishonbroadway-Stock, true name unknown

Picture
This piece also entitled "Identity," includes a caption by the artist:"What is your identity? are you an individual, or just llike everyone else?
and/or
have you found yourself? are you digging within yourself to try to develope your identity?
and/or
identity theft"
The artist is a female, age 19 from the United States. She considers herself an, "experimental photographer."

This piece is particularly effective covering the eyes with the multiple definitions of identity. The eyes are what we usually think to be the most distinguishable feature.
